cultural events
We believe that culture is intricately intertwined with language. That's why, here at NUS, cultural events are an integral part of the the Thai Language Programme experience. From Songkran to Loy Krathong, we bring students one step closer to the Thai culture.
Songkran at NUS
In Thailand, Songkran is held from the 13th to 15th of April every year. Characterised by house visiting, feasting, and water gun fights, it is a festival of joy, reunion, and renewal.

Here at NUS, the Thai Language Programme holds a yearly celebration as close to the actual day as possible. With authentic, homemade Thai food and music performances by teachers, alumni, and current students, Songkran at NUS brings the entire Thai Language Programme family together.

Loy Krathong at NUS
Taking place on the full moon of the 12th lunar month (November), Loy Krathong is a festival commonly associated with beautifully-decorated banana stems floating down rivers in Thailand as people gather on the banks to watch.

Loy Krathong at NUS recreates this experience with krathong-making activities in addition to its trademark staples of authentic Thai food and music. Have a go at making your own krathong, floating it down a pool, and milling around with others on a cool October or November evening (we usually celebrate it slightly earlier!).

Welcome Tea
In each semester, the Thai Language Programme holds a Welcome Tea to welcome new students to the programme.

From tasting homemade Thai food by the teachers themselves, to activities such as Muay Thai, Thai dancing, attempting tongue twisters, and even talks by accomplished alumni, the Welcome Tea is a fun-filled event that will satisfy the hearts, the bellies, and the minds of those eager to learn about the Thai culture.
